Superstars confirmed for ATP Thailand Open 2007

Three of the world’s top 5 tennis players will headline an exciting field confirmed to participate at the Thailand Open 2007. The event returns to Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani from September 22 to 30.

Grand Slam champions World #2 Rafael Nadal and World #4 Andy Roddick had already confirmed their attendance at this year’s event, and now teen sensation World #3 Novak Djokovic has joined them in the prestigious event.

Also coming to Bangkok to compete for the USD550,000 prize money are: World #11 Tommy Haas, the world’s fastest rising player Benjamin Becker and hometown hero Paradorn Srichaphan.

Novak Djokovic will be making his second appearance at the Thailand Open. In 2004, as a 17-year-old ranked #272 in the world, Djokovic played just his third ATP Tour event in Bangkok. This time he returns as the #3 player in the world. Djokovic has made an amazing climb up the ATP rankings and in 2007 has enjoyed his most successful year, winning three titles including the Indian Wells Masters Series event where he beat Nadal in the final.

German pair Tommy Haas and Benjamin Becker are also enjoying great success in 2007. Haas won his 11 th career title when he beat Andy Roddick in the Memphis final and has been in the world’s top 10 for most of the year.

Benjamin Becker’s rise in the rankings has been as striking as Djokovic’s. Famous for being the man who beat Andre Agassi in his last professional match, Becker’s ranking has soared from #421 at the beginning of 2006 to his current #45.

Paradorn has missed most of this year undergoing treatment on his injured wrist but expects to be fit to compete in his home event for the fifth straight time. "It has been a difficult year missing so much tennis and trying to get my wrist right, but I'm definitely aiming to be back for the Thailand Open," Paradorn said.
