‘Sorry, see you next year’: says Nadal

World # 2 Rafael Nadal has said ‘sorry’ to Thai tennis fans for having to miss the Thailand Open this year and stated his knee injury as for the reason of the withdrawal.

The Thailand Open 2007 was dealt a blow today on learning that Nadal, the three-time consecutive French Open champion, has withdrawn from the tournament at the last minute because of his knee injury.

“I’m really sorry to announce I have to withdraw from the Thailand Open at this late date.

“As you probably know, I had a knee injury during the US Open and hoped that it would clear up for the Thailand Open. Unfortunately that is not the case. I have sought medical advice and have been advised to rest my knees for at least another few weeks,” said Nadal

However the Spaniard promises to try and make amends next year.

“I was very much looking forward to playing my first Thailand Open. Thailand is a beautiful country and I’ve heard so many good things about it. I am sorry to have disappointed my Thai fans, and I hope to make it to Thailand in 2008.”
